Art of the Swedish Lifestyle
End of the exhibition
Carl Larsson (1853 – 1919) was a Swedish painter, popular throughout the country, known for his warm works of art that used his family as models. He was given a house called Lilla Hyttnäs in Dalarna, a province where a lot of old traditions remain, and remodeled it into his ideal home with his wife Karin. The art books that depict their lifestyle have had a profound influence on modern-day Swedish interior design, and translations of his books have been published in many countries. This exhibition presents not only paintings, but also objects shown for the first time in Japan, including furniture designed by the couple, and Karin’s textiles, giving a close-up of the lifestyle that charms the world.
