Opening hours

  • What time does the Museum open?

    The Museum is open from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (admission ends 30 minutes before closing time). Depending on the exhibition, open hours may be extended on Fridays.Since special changes may be made in open hours, please check the Exhibitions webpage or call our toll-free (Hello dial) number 050-5541-8600.

  • What day is the Museum closed?

    The Museum is closed every Monday unless it is a public holiday, when a new exhibition is being installed, and over the New Year period. The Museum will from time to time have openings and closures on other days, so please check on the Exhibitions webpage or call our toll-free (Hello dial) number 050-5541-8600.

  • How do I get to the Museum?

    It is a five-minute walk from Shinjuku Station (JR, Keio, or Odakyu lines).
    It is a five-minute walk from Shinjuku Station or Nishi-Shinjuku Station on the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line.
    It is a five-minute walk from West Exit of Shinjuku Station on the Toei Oedo Line.
    It is a ten-minute walk from Shinjuku Station on the Toei Oedo Line
    It is a ten-minute walk from Shinjuku Station on the Keio New Line
    It is a ten-minute walk from Shinjuku Station on the Toei Shinjuku Line

  • Is there parking?

    The Museum does not have its own parking area, but there is a parking lot under the building next to it, the Sompo Japan Headquarters Building. (Charge: 400 yen per 30 min.)

  • Do buses stop in front of it?

    There is no bus stop nearby.

Admission charges

  • How much does admission cost?

    It depends on the exhibition. Please check for details on the Exhibitions webpage. There is free admission for young people under 18 (with ID). Young People (students) under 18 (with ID) are required to present their student handbook (ID).

Exhibitions and exhibits

  • Is Sunflowers (Van Gogh) always on display? And it is possible to view Sunflowers only?

    Yes, it is on display whenever the Museum is open.
    It is on permanent display in a viewing case at the end of the last gallery floor, so it can be viewed during any visit to the Museum.

  • What is the schedule for upcoming exhibitions?

  • How long will I need to spend at the Museum to see the full display?

    Depending on the exhibition, the average is around 40 minutes.

  • Can electronic devices such as computers and smartphones be used in the exhibit galleries? And can I take photographs or film in the exhibit galleries?

    Electronic devices may be used, except for telephone calls and photo/filming functions. When using your devices, please beware of operating noise and screen backlighting. However, we may ask you to refrain from using a device if it risks impeding the view of other visitors. And in principle,
    photography and filming are not permitted in the exhibit galleries. Should there be any exhibitions for which photography or filming is allowed, it will be noted on the Exhibitions webpage. The use of strobes, flashes, tripods, etc. for taking pictures is prohibited. Also, refrain from taking photographs or video that includes images of other people in the galleries.

  • Can I use writing implements in the exhibit galleries? And, can I draw/paint copies of the art works?

    Writing implements other than pencils may not be used. Please also refrain from using colored pencils or sharp pencils. And you cannot draw/paint copies the art, but you may make sketches (pencils only). Colored pencils, ballpoint pens and sharp pencils are not permitted). However, we may ask you to refrain from sketching if it risks impeding the view of other visitors.

Use of facilities

  • Do you have storage lockers?

    Yes, on the 1st floor. Lockers are free of charge (not coin lockers). If these are insufficient, we will keep luggage for you at the Museum of Art Reception desk on the 1st floor.

  • I would like to take my medicine.

    Please do so in the Museum of Art 1st floor lobby or 2nd floor. If you require water, there is a vending machine on the 2nd floor. In principle, no food or drink is allowed on the exhibition floors. Please also refrain from chewing gum and eating candy on the exhibition floors.

  • Can I enter the Museum with my wheelchair? Is there a toilet for wheelchair users?Can I borrow a wheelchair?

    Yes. There are wheelchair-accessible toilets on the 2nd and 5th floors. We have wheelchairs available to borrow. Please ask at the Reception desk if you wish to use one.

    *Please note that the number of wheelchairs available is limited.

  • Are infants and young children allowed to enter the Museum? Is there a space for nursing and diaper changing?

    There is no restriction on infants and young children coming to the Museum, but they will need to be escorted by their guardian. However, we may ask you to temporarily leave the galleries if there is a risk of impeding the viewing experience of other visitors. There is nursing and diaper changing space on the 2nd floor.

  • Can I bring a baby stroller into the exhibit galleries?

    Yes. However, for the sake of safety, we ask you to refrain from bringing a stroller into a gallery when it is crowded.

    *We have no strollers to lend.

  • Is it possible to visit the Museum Shop only?

    Yes. Please proceed directly to the 2nd floor. However, entrance to the museum is only allowed until 30 minutes before closing time.

  • Is there a café?

    Yes, there is in the 2nd floor. It opens only on weekends and public holidays during exhibition periods. (Opening hours: 11.30 A.M to 5.00 P.M.)
