Introducing the exhibition
The landscape painter Maurice Utrillo (1883-1955) is renowned for his depictions of the cityscapes of early 20th-century Paris. This exhibition, organized in cooperation with France's Musée National d'Art Moderne (MNAM), aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the artist's achievement by showcasing approximately 60 works, including gems from the MNAM collection such as Le Lapin Agile, along with pieces from museums in Japan. Works from Utrillo's "Montmagny Period" when he took up painting as a way to treat his alcoholism, his highly productive "White Period" characterized by the use of a variety of materials to capture the texture of white walls, and his "Color Period" with works featuring an abundant use of vivid colors, will lead us to savor the poetry of the cityscapes Utrillo loved.
