The 100th of his birth
YAMASHITA KIYOSHI
2023.06.24(Sat)- 09.10(Sun)
Notice of the exhibition
Kiyoshi Yamashita (1922-1971), who would have celebrated his 100th birthday in 2022, was known as a wandering, genius painter, who captured the hearts of many people through his Hari-e collages of nostalgic Japanese landscapes. This exhibition takes you through the life of Kiyoshi Yamashita, who continued to actively create works of art until his death at age 49, through many of his works, including his sketches from when he was a child to his Hari-e collages that were inspired by his wandering around Japan, as well as the oil paintings, the ceramics and pen drawings. Kiyoshi Yamashita is well known thanks to dramatizations and films about his life, but this exhibit offers the chance to examine anew his real self as an artist dedicated to his work, with a personality that was delicate and naïve.
